About Women in Technology

SETU will host the sixth Women in Technology event at the SETU Arena, Waterford, on Thursday, 12 March 2026. The event promotes women’s participation in technology, highlights pathways into SETU tech courses, and showcases career opportunities across the sector.
Last year’s event drew over 1,000 female students from across the region. Alongside inspiring female keynote speakers, major tech companies will host stands and engage with attendees.
The goal is to encourage those curious about tech careers and further motivate students already considering this path. Attendees will meet women working across technology, engineering, ICT, and software development.

Registration

The technology sector needs more women studying the varied technological courses available, like those at SETU. These graduates can then begin forge a career in a variety of interesting technical roles that provide a flexible lifestyle, where they may be part of a team of people to develop new ideas, services and products.

This event will challenge your understanding of technology and demonstrate the career paths open to women in computing, physics and engineering. Women make up half the world, so it is only logical they would make up half the workforce in technology.

Recently, there has been a shortfall in women taking the technology route. This wasn’t always the case. Ada Lovelace (daughter of the English poet Lord Byron) is widely regarded as the world’s first programmer.

It is time now to focus on the next generation of female tech talent to ensure that there is, numbers wise, a more balanced pipeline of talent from which to draw, in order to make gender equality in technology a reality.

Who should attend?

Second level and third level female students and teachers are invited to attend. This free event will include exhibitions, technology demonstrations and female speakers from industry as well as information around the multitude of third level programmes at SETU, which act as a gateway to an exciting, interesting and inspiring career in technology.
